2008 Programs for Community Groups

Community programs are brief, focused educational materials appropriate for use by many organizations. Each program includes leader's guide and hand out summary of the program content for participating learners. Programs can be presented by group leaders with an hour or less of preparation time.

The 2008 lessons are

(2008) Long Term Care: What Is It, Where Do You Get It and How Do You Pay For It!

Description: With the impending retirement of the baby boomer generation, the need for resources to care for seniors is poised to grow exponentially. The term “long-term” is used to describe a variety of care options, delivery systems and service providers. This lesson will provide learners with in-depth knowledge of care methods, cost of care, how services are financed, as well as who provides care to our nation’s elderly and disabled adult citizens.

(2008) Banding Together for Strength

Description: This community program teaches ways to use an elastic band to strengthen and maintain muscle as one grows older. Doing activities that strengthen muscles at least twice a week will give noticeable results in muscle tone and firmness as early as 6 weeks. Strength training can help those with osteoarthritis by decreasing pain, increasing muscle strength, gaining more function and improving clinical symptoms of arthritis.

(2008) Developing Cultural Understanding and Cultural Competence

Description: The United States has undergone a rapid shift in its’ ethnic composition and in addition, today’s world is one of increasing globalization. This community lesson focuses on how individuals can be better responsive to cultural differences and diversity in backgrounds and how they can be global citizens in today’s changing world.

(2008) Make Every Drop Count in the Home

Description: Water conservation is an environmentally sound way to reduce the demand for water. Water conservation can include physical changes (like modifications to plumbing and fixtures), or behavior changes (like changes in water use habits). This program focuses on the many effective ways to conserve water in your home. Conserving water can help preserve the quality and quantity of available water and many reduced use and utility costs.

Credit: How Do You Score?

Help you understand credit reports or credit files, know basic facts about credit scores and how they are used, and learn ways to improve a credit score.

Easy on Energy: Tips for Conserving

Save energy resources and dollars, and reduce emissions by using energy conservation measures and energy efficient products in the home.

Volunteerism: A Tool for Positive Youth Development

Learn the positive benefits gained by both youth and community thorough volunteerism.

Who Cares for the Caregiver

Lesson will help individuals and families asses the resources they have to become caregivers, understand their own needs, and help develop plans for everyone to share in the care of family members.
